Durham police were attempting to serve warrants on 46-year-old Rory Robertson at a Denbow Road residence early Monday morning. When an officer attempted to stop Robertson as he left the property in a vehicle, he returned to the residence and refused to surrender.
The situation escalated when Robertson, a registered sex offender with a pending competency hearing on separate stalking and sexual assault charges, began aiming and discharging fireworks toward officers and a marked patrol vehicle, including one that exploded beneath a cruiser. Police issued a shelter-in-place alert for the surrounding neighborhood and requested assistance from the Strafford County Regional Tactical Operations Unit. Officers also reported behavior that led them to believe Robertson may have been pointing a firearm in their direction.
At approximately 8:06 a.m., Robertson came out of the residence and began walking directly toward officers while ignoring repeated commands to stop.
Officers deployed several PepperBall projectiles, stopping Robertson's advance and allowing officers to take him into custody. and he was booked into the Strafford County House of Corrections on multiple charges. WATCH THE VIDEO HERE.
